Roses in Tokyo: Unique Spots for Taking Beautiful Photos

Like every flower known to mankind, roses in Tokyo have their own magical moment each year. They are not native to Japan and have been introduced so the best places to find them in are parks and gardens where they have been planted, usually blooming around mid May. If you’re looking for some low-key spots to take photos in the popular rose season and beat the crowds, these unique spots are the perfect fit for you!

What you will find here

All the locations are located in Tokyo metropolitan which means they’re easy to get to on foot or by bike. That makes things easier when you’re trying to avoid big crowds and keep some distance. So if you are over all the cherry blossom photos and looking for a unique backdrop for your Instagram photos, read on!

Minato Ward Shiba Park

I have mentioned this spot a few times because it was my local park in Tokyo. These are my favourite roses in Tokyo as they arch to frame Tokyo Tower. All the roses are pink. It is the perfect spot to get photos if you are traveling to Japan and want a great postcard-worthy photo!

Prince Shiba Park

This park is walking distance from Minato Ward Shiba Park. It is up the stairs and has views of the Prince Hotel. It’s a nice quiet area that is popular for dates. Here, you will find a small flower garden that is very rose heavy. There are some different roses but they’re mostly pink. It includes some arch walkways you can walk through, although bees also love this rose garden so beware. If you take a photo from an angle – from the ground looking up – you can get the roses and Tokyo Tower in the photo as well.

If you’re looking for more places to take photos of Tokyo Tower I have a full list on this post, The Best Locations For Photos Of Tokyo Tower.

Shibaura Chuo Park

This park is nice and quiet so you can really take your time and enjoy the roses! The park is down the back of the park, away from the station. There are a lot more roses here and they include a range of colours. There are a few archways as well as some seats in the garden. I find they are almost 100 percent occupied by the elderly locals who come to enjoy the roses on their walk. Bless.

Tokyo Tower Ogata Bus Parking Lot

This spot is great if you are desperate for a beautiful rose backdrop and you’re short on time when visiting Tokyo Tower. There is actually a wall of roses growing on the fence at the back of Tokyo Tower. It is the Tokyo Tower Ogata Bus Parking Lot. You cannot really get a shot of Tokyo Tower in with the roses as it is in the opposite direction and too close.

VERDICT

Verdict: Is roses season worth a visit?

If you’re coming to Tokyo for a visit just to see the roses then definitely no. Roses are not such a big deal here as they are not a Japanese flower – however they are beautiful! If you live in Tokyo or you happen to be in Tokyo during May for another reason, then they are definitely worth checking out for a photo opportunity.
