Most Instagrammable Places in Budapest to Take Amazing Photos

The city of Ruin Bars and Thermal Baths

Why should you visit Budapest?

When I first put Budapest on my itinerary, I didn’t realise it was going to be one of the most instagrammable places on my trip. Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, is undoubtedly one of the most Instagrammable cities in Europe. With its stunning architecture, vibrant street art, and breathtaking views of the Danube River, Budapest is a photographer’s paradise.

The city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Hungarian Parliament Building, and the Chain Bridge, offer picture-perfect backdrops for any Instagram post. The colourful and lively ruin bars, unique thermal baths, and cosy coffee shops make Budapest an ideal destination for both solo travellers and Instagram influencers alike. From the historic Buda Castle to the trendy neighbourhoods of Pest, Budapest is filled with countless Instagram-worthy spots that will leave you in awe.

What you will find here

This post will tell you all the beautiful places to take instagrammable photos in Budapest. You’ll find my personal favourite places that I’ve visited, and the exact locations!

Photo Location #1: Fisherman’s Bastion

Why Fisherman’s Bastion Is So Amazing For Photos:

The Fisherman’s Bastion is at the top of my list because it was the first place I went to in Budapest. On a very cold and early morning, we headed over to the Buda side of Budapest by bus and then onto Fisherman’s Bastion by foot. It was then that I realised that Budapest was ah-maz-ing. The views from Fisherman’s Bastion are really worth the walk, and you get to see the city in its best light.

What To Take Photos of at Fisherman’s Bastion:

I recommend going to Fisherman’s Bastion early in the morning because that’s what I did so that’s what I can recommend. Halászbástya, Jezsuita lépcsÅ‘, and Schulek Staircase are gorgeous spots to enjoy the sunrise and the morning haze over the city is absolutely stunning. There are also less people earlier in the morning so it’s easy to get the best photos in Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest.

Photo Location #2: Stöckl Staircase and the Royal Riding Hall

Why Stöckl and the Royal Riding Hall staircase Is So Amazing For Photos:

Also located on the Buda side in the grounds of Buda Castle, these two locations go hand-in-hand and are perfect for photos of the Hungarian grand architectural style of the Castle district. Buda Castle is not so much of a castle but more of a grand palace complex that was used by the Hungarian Kings in Budapest.

What To Take Photos of at Stöckl Staircase and the Royal Riding Hall:

Uh, basically everything. As someone who grew up in a very castleless country, this whole place is absolutely magical! In the Castle district on Castle Hill, you’ll find Stöckl-lépcső (Stöckl staircase) and the Royal Riding Hall which are close to each other and perfect for photos. If you take a photo at the top of Stöckl-lépcső you will get views of the Royal Riding Hall, whereas if you walk down to the Royal Riding Hall you’ll get a great show of Stöckl-lépcső.

Photo Location #3: Matild Café & Cabaret

Matild Cafe, Budapest.

Why Matild Café Is So Amazing For Photos:

This gorgeous cafe is on the Pest side and was once the hot-spot for artists and writers, and has been around for over a hundred years. If you’re looking for that quintessential Budapest vibe, then look no further as Matild Cafe is one of the most instagrammable places in Budapest. Located in the gorgeous Matild Palace, it is beautifully grand with a unique Hungarian interior. They also have milk alternatives if you’re looking for a cute spot for a vegan coffee.

What To Watch Out For at Matild Café:

If you’re looking to take photos at Matild Café, early morning is the best option as that is when it is not very busy. It also has better lighting for inside photos earlier in the day.

The room at Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

What is the best hotel to stay in when visiting Budapest?

When we were in Budapest we stayed at Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel. I absolutely loved my stay here, and it is so conveniently located so it is easy to be able to get up early in the morning and visit all the sites. I wrote a review about Matild Palace, which you can read for all the details. For a Luxury Collection Hotel, it is very reasonably priced considering the quality of the rooms and the hotel. When I go back to Budapest, I’ll definitely be staying here again. It’s also available to book through Booking.com so you can find some good deals with your Genius Points.

The bathroom in the hotel room at Matild Hotel is 10/10.

VERDICT

Verdict? Budapest is one of my favourite places for photos!

Budapest has so many amazing places that are perfect backdrops for all your photos. The awesome thing about Budapest is that it really feels ‘undiscovered’ by mass tourism, so you aren’t fighting your way through lines or crowds.
