Why should you visit Bagno Vignoni
When I heard about Bagno Vignoni I knew I had to add it to my itinerary for when I was driving through Tuscany, Italy. Bagno Vignoni is a charming Tuscan village known for its ancient thermal baths nestled in the heart of the Val d’Orcia. We went to Bagno Vignoni for dinner and it was exceptional – one of the most beautiful and unique smaller villages in Tuscany.
What you will find here
Here you’ll find my personal experience visiting Bagno Vignoni. Is Bagno Vignoni the best town in Tuscany? No (but it is close). But it is a unique village that you must see. Let me show you why.
What Is there to do in Bagno Vignoni?
Admire the expansive views of Rocca di Tentennano
From Bagno Vignoni, you can look out across Tuscany. This is the best spot for taking photos of Rocca di Tentennano, a fortress at the nearby town Castiglione d’Orcia. This is because the views are completely uninterrupted. Just before the entrance to the town and near the carpark there is a veiwpoint where there is also a foot bath to enjoy.
Parco dei Mulini
These are the thermal baths that run down the side of the hill of the village. You will need to walk down the stairs to these thermal hot springs to enjoy them. There are still some amazing views from there but they are quite small. When we arrived in the evening, there were still a few people enjoying them.
Visit Piazza delle Sorgenti for some reflection
Gaze into the pool in the main square, Piazza delle Sorgenti, which has a gorgeous thermal bath right in the centre of the square. It is not for swimming or bathing, but simply to enjoy the view. There is a small set of monkey statues, too. This spot is perfect for photos so make sure you take a few snaps.
Enjoy some food along with your views
There is a very romantic restaurant, Ristorante Enoteca La Terrazza, overlooking the hot springs with alfresco seating. For something more casual, Bistro le Terme is next door.
What are the best vegan eats in Bagno Vignoni?
I couldn’t find any vegan restaurants while in Bagno Vignoni. If you’re looking for vegan food, I recommend sticking to bruschetta, olives, focaccia, and sundried tomatoes. There are a few restaurants and bars (such as Ristorante Enoteca La Terrazza and Bistro le Terme) in the town square and they serve bruschetta and small snacks.
When is the best time to visit Bagno Vignoni?
We went in the evening, around 7pm during August. This was the perfect time as the sun was going down and the views were amazing. The town is a lot quieter too, which made it really enjoyable to walk around. If you go during sunset, you will see the most magical colours in the sky and the light roll over the hills of Tuscany. It is one of my most fondest memories of Tuscany!
How do you get to Bagno Vignoni?
I highly recommend driving around Tuscany as it is the easiest option. This is a small village so it is not as connected as some of the bigger towns. There is a carpark at the top of the hill by the park which is where we parked. It is a short walk to the viewpoint and the town square but you will need to walk down the side of the cliff to get to the hot springs.
