Why should you visit Monticchiello tuscany
Monticchiello Tuscany was the first town that I went to where I felt like I had stepped into an authentic Tuscan town that was lost in time. It might not be my favourite town in Tuscany but Monticchiello is a quaint village in Tuscany Italy, known for its rustic beauty with narrow streets, historic buildings, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
What you will find here
Here you’ll find my personal experience visiting Monticchiello. This includes my own opinions and photographs as well as my recommendations of places to visit while you’re there.
What Is there to do in Monticchiello?
Teatro Povero
If visiting during the summer months, Teatro Povero is an open-air theatre festival, initiated by the locals, with performances that often reflect the village’s history and culture, providing a distinctive blend of art and community spirit. We went in the morning and you can see it being set up but the performances are usually in the evening.
Piazzetta della Vittoria
Piazzetta della Vittoria is the main square of Monticchiello. This is where we went in the morning and it was so nice to see the locals sitting around the park benches having a chat in the morning. It really felt like I was in Tuscany!
What are the best vegan eats in Monticchiello?
I couldn’t find any vegan restaurants while in Monticchiello. Monticchiello is a very small, quaint town and there are not many restaurants or cafes here. If you’re looking for vegan food, I recommend sticking to the Italian classics: bruschetta, olives, focaccia, and sundried tomatoes.
When is the best time to visit Monticchiello?
We visited Monticchiello around 9am and it was the perfect time to visit. We were lucky to get the last car park in the closest parking lot to the town. The crowds were very low, and it was mostly the locals who were hanging around the town enjoying the morning sun. It was really the best way to experience the town as it is much smaller than the other Tuscan villages.
How do you get to Monticchiello?
I highly recommend driving around Tuscany because it is the most convenient way. There are not many paid parking lots around the outside of the wall that surrounds Monticchiello and there is some on-street parking. If you don’t drive or do not want the pressure of driving on Italian roads, the next best option is to join a tour!
