Venice is a photographer’s dream with its romantic, meandering canals, iconic gondolas, and beautifully ornate architecture. It is the perfect backdrop for your shots! The narrow streets and picturesque bridges create endless opportunities for capturing the city’s timeless charm.Whether you’re drawn to the historic St. Mark’s Square or prefer exploring the hidden corners of this unique city, Venice offers an abundance of visual delights for any photography enthusiast.

Here you’ll find the spots that I have personally been to in Venice along with my photography so I can confirm they are very aesthetically pleasing. One thing to note is that most of my photos were taken in the early morning as that is usually when I go on my photo walks. If you’re looking to take photos at the iconic spots, this is the best option as the crowds get really heavy in Venice during the day. If you enjoy taking photos during the day and people watching, there will be countless opportunities to capture the crowds.

Locations To Take Photos In Venice

Photo location in Venice #1: Doge’s Palace

Why this spot is amazing for photos

Doge’s Palace is one of my favourite locations to take photos in Venice because there are so many opportunities to capture something beautiful (I mean it is a palace, after all!).

What to watch out for

Make sure you go early because then you’ll be able to take photos without crowds and really take your time as there is alot to see!

Photo location in Venice #2: On the bridges

Why this spot is amazing for photos

Venice is renowned for its numerous stunning bridges, each with its own unique character and charm. From Rialto Bridge to Ponte degli Scalzi to the smallest, most unassuming bridge taking you across the canals, you’ll be surprised at how quaint and gorgeous these make for a photo backdrop.

What to watch out for

There are many, many bridges throughout Venice. They are all unique and beautiful, so I highly suggest you roam around and you’ll easily be able to find one to take photos with no crowds. However, the bigger, more popular bridges are almost impassable during the middle of the day, when foot traffic is high.

Photo location in Venice #3: Carta Gate, Porta della Carta

Why this spot is amazing for photos

This is a great location for photos because it is an excellent example of Venetian Gothic architecture. It is right at the entrance of Doge’s Palace too, so you can take photos here and explore before going into Doge’s Palace.

What to watch out for

This area gets really busy as all the visitors from Doge’s Palace congregate here so as usual, I recommend getting here early!

Where to find Carta Gate

Photo location in Venice #4: Museo Correr

Why this spot is amazing for photos

Museo Correr is great for photos because it is not as busy as Doge’s Palace but has major palace vibes. There is also a library that is so spectacular and the view from the windows of Museo Correr looks out onto St Mark’s Square so it is the perfect place to take photos of the iconic square and Saint Mark’s Basilica.

What to watch out for

As I said this spot is not as busy as Doge’s Palace so it is a great spot to visit during the day. I also recommend heading here later in the day because it would be great in the late afternoon, too.

Photo location in Venice #5: Ponte della Paglia

Why this spot is amazing for photos

Ponte della Paglia is a fantastic photo spot in Venice due to its strategic position offering a splendid view of the iconic Bridge of Sighs, gondolas gliding through the narrow waterway, and that real Venetian vibe.

What to watch out for

This bridge is great for iconic shots and because of this it gets really busy. Even early in the morning, you’ll find some foot traffic. But if you wait, you’ll be able to get a nice shot. I liked taking photos here before lunch when the gondolas had started working because it makes for a nice shot.

Where to find Ponte Della Paglia

Photo location in Venice #6: Bridge of Sighs, Ponte dei Sospiri

Why this spot is amazing for photos

The Bridge of Sighs is a great place to take photos because it has awesome views of Ponte della Paglia, Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, and the ocean. Because this canal area is really popular, there are often gondolas going past, too.

What to watch out for

This area gets really busy inside the bridge of sighs and it is very narrow, so there isn’t a lot of space to stop and take photos unless you get here early.
