Luxury Resort Review: Beautiful Komaneka at Tanggayuda in Ubud, Bali

A hidden sanctuary with all the frills

About the hotel

Komaneka At Tanggayuda is one of the boutique brand Komaneka Resort’s beautiful resort hotels located in Ubud, Bali. If you are looking at staying somewhere in Ubud, Komaneka has a range of hotels located in Ubud, including Monkey Forest, Tanggayuda, and Bisma. A little further down from Ubud, Komaneka also opened a resort hotel in Keramas Beach, Gianyar.

The Room

When we first arrived we were quite surprised with just how spacious the room was. The room is large and airy, with traditionally designed high ceilings and large doors that open up to the garden, patio, and pool area. We went in June and personally I found the pool far too cold to swim in as it is out of the sun, but it may be fine in summer.

The room leads to a generous bathroom that is absolutely gorgeous. It has two vanities and sinks which makes it perfect for couples who do not want to share (that is me!). The shower is also flawlessly designed to meet that Bali aesthetic that guests expect, with a walk-in rain shower with wood and stone details for that natural cohesive look. There is also a bath that sits looking out onto your private contained garden and patio area.

The Facilities

Komaneka At Tanggayuda has the following facilities that are worth mentioning:

Gym

I did not use this (what a surprise!), but for people who have their life together, you’ll find a gorgeous view of the pool and the tropical forest.

Infinity pool

There are two infinity pools at Komaneka At Tanggayuda. The first is on the first floor (under the restaurant) and adds to a gorgeous ambience during breakfast as you look down, and out, over the pool and palm trees to the forest. Here you will also find the heated pool. The other pool is further away from the main building and is more secluded and better for swimming. It is also an infinity pool with views of the tropical forest. This is where they also serve afternoon tea.

Spa

There is a full service spa onsite that offers a variety of treatments, a salon, and a hot tub.

We had an intimate dinner on the top floor of the restaurant.

The food & Drinks

Vegan Options at Komaneka at Tanggayuda

If you are a vegan like me then you will feel like you have been transported to vegan heaven at Komaneka At Tanggayuda. When I told them about my dietary restrictions they handed me their special menu. Yes, they have a whole menu for vegan food and dietary restrictions. I recommend getting breakfast included in your stay so that you can experience their fantastic breakfast overlooking the infinity pool and enjoy some delicious local fresh fruits. They also offer private dining experiences in the evening on the upper level which is such an intimate and wonderful way to spend time with your partner.

The Location

The location is excellent if you’re looking to escape to a tropical forest and do some nature walks around Ubud. Komaneka At Tanggayuda has the ideal combo of feeling very remote but also being a 15 minute drive from Ubud’s centre. The great thing about Komaneka Resorts is that they offer shuttles that go between their resorts, so you can easily catch a shuttle into Ubud’s centre to do some shopping or see the Ubud monkeys by catching the shuttle to Komaneka’s Monkey Forest Resort. The markets in Ubud are legendary, which we pottered around one day and spent the other one taking instagrammable photos at Campuhan Ridge Walk!

how to book Komaneka at Tanggayuda

My favourite way to book hotels is through Booking.com. Booking.com offers a price guarantee (even when not paying upfront and paying at the hotel), they match prices, and they also offer a wide range of rooms with benefits (like afternoon tea and breakfast). VERDICT

My Grade:

4.5/5

High point of my stay:

Having Indonesian fruits topped up in your room while you doze in a canopy bed.

Low point of my stay:

Falling in the pool in the morning before it had time to warm up (our pool was on the lower floor and needed more sunshine).

Who would love to stay at Komaneka at Tanggayuda?

This was my partner’s first time visiting Ubud so I really wanted him to experience that essential Ubud feeling of being surrounded by rainforests and terraced rice paddies, sprinkled with Hindu temples and shrines. We wanted something that was peaceful, quiet, and private. Komaneka At Tanggayuda is very much set up for lovers, and is a perfect destination for an anniversary.

The resort feels secluded, with most rooms having their own pool. That way you can remain undisturbed. While walking around, we only saw a few other groups of guests as the grounds are very lush, giving you the sense of privacy. Komaneka At Tanggayuda feels like you’re the only couple in the world! It is also set up with everything you need so you do not need to leave the resort, perfect for those who have come to escape the city and rejuvenate.
