Want To Leave Teaching? Everything You Need To Know

Are you ready to change careers?

OK, so if you are here you have probably considered at some time (maybe you haven’t even admitted it to yourself yet) that you might want to leave teaching. Teaching is a noble profession that requires a tremendous amount of dedication, hard work, and passion. However, for some teachers, the demands of the job can become overwhelming, leading to burnout and dissatisfaction with their career. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding and important career path, but at some point you need to ask yourself if the benefits outweigh the disadvantages to your life and your goals. I started considering this when I moved to Australia in 2021 and went through the daily struggle of going into work and trying to find a permanent role (while my non-teacher friends reclined in their cushy wfh jobs).

So I decided to quit teaching. Changing careers can offer a fresh start and the opportunity to create a better life. Whether it’s to pursue a new passion, improve work-life balance, or find a more fulfilling career, making the decision to leave teaching can be a difficult but ultimately rewarding choice.

VERDICT

Can you leave teaching for a better job? 100% you can

I’m not going to lie, leaving teaching is an incredibly difficult decision and it will be an emotional rollercoaster. However, it took me less than a term from the moment I decided I didn’t want to teach the next school year until I was sitting at home on a Monday morning working my new wfh job. So if you’re thinking about the change, the best time to start is now.
