The Most Beautiful Uncrowded Spots to Take Photos in Bangkok

Are you looking for Crowd-free photo spots in bangkok?

I’ve found that Bangkok is one of those divisive cities that people either love or hate. Personally, I absolutely love it and it is one of my favourite destinations! I first visited in 2018 and have been back twice since. From rooftop bars to gorgeous malls to energetic markets to ornate temples, Bangkok really has it all! Although it is a super busy city, in my opinion it is pretty easy to find uncrowded spots to take photos in Bangkok. You just have to go prepared!

What you will find here

If you’re looking for the best locations to take photos without the stress of being packed in like a sardine in Bangkok, this is your list. If you’re looking for a list of the places where you’re favourite instagrammers take their photos so you can wait in a 1 hour line to take the exact same photo, this is not your list. I recently visited Bangkok for the third time and thought this might help some people who would love to take photos but just don’t know where to start in a busy city like Bangkok.

I picked mostly places that are not very crowded, so it is easy to take photos without the stress of feeling rushed so it is perfect for the anxiety-ridden traveller like me. There are some locations in here that are very popular and can get busy but they’re locations that are grand and expansive so you’ll be able to find a spot away from the crowds and noise and still see some beautiful stuff, get some good angles for your photos, and enjoy your photography-taking and sightseeing.

Chatuchak Park

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

Pink location alert! Chatuchak Park is right next to one of the most popular sightseeing destinations of Bangkok – Chatuchak Weekend Markets so you already have an excuse to go there. This is personally one of my favourite uncrowded spots to take photos in Bangkok because its, well, pink. The park is really beautiful, beautifully maintained, and the perfect spot to escape to in the city for a little bit of nature. There are two (yes, two!) pink bridges over the river.

What to watch out for

The Chatuchak Weekend Markets get very busy on the weekend after 10am so I recommend going early (if at all), grabbing some food and taking it over to Chatuchak Park to sit down and enjoy watching some squirrels and birds. I got my partner to take my photo from the grass bend before the bridge so you can get the whole bridge and the cityscape behind in the shot.

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

This is one of the biggies that everyone going to Thailand is going to go and see. Although the Grand Palace is one of the busiest spots in Bangkok there are still so many places to take beautiful photos on the complex. From the The Temple of the Emerald Buddha to the many, many halls and statues that are located within the complex gates, you’ll be sure to find something magic!

What to watch out for

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is the main attraction and the busiest spot, so if you just stay on the outside or just avoid it completely you should be able to stay away from big crowds. Keep in mind I have been to The Grand Palace Bangkok in 2024 and previously in 2019 and I felt like The Temple of the Emerald Buddha was about 50% busier, even though I went at the same time (early morning on a non-holiday weekday).

There are some rules about what you can wear (covered shoulders and knees) and it is strictly enforced. They do have a shop where you can buy something to wear that meets the standard and the prices are pretty reasonable though so don’t freak out if you don’t have the right clothes.

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

This is a gorgeous temple located in the Chinatown district of Bangkok and when I strolled by one afternoon I found that it was one of the most perfect crowd-free photo spots in Bangkok! Wat Traimit Withayaram Worawihan (Golden Buddha) is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. You are also allowed to take photos inside which means you have a lot to work with.

What to watch out for

You need to pay to enter this site and there are quite a lot of stairs but I believe there is a lift for accessibility. There are some rules about what you can wear (covered shoulders and knees) and what you can photograph (no flash allowed etc).

Taken at Breeze rooftop bar at Lebua.

Lebua at State Tower

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

Lebua at State Tower is that hotel. You know, the one that everyone thinks of when they think of Bangkok. It was featured in movies and everyone you see on Instagram has probably stayed there. But you know what? It has great views. They have a range of rooftop bars (including the famous Sky Bar) where you will get an expansive panorama of the whole city or the river.

Our hotel room’s balcony facing the city at Lebua.

If you’re looking for the one of the ultimate uncrowded spots to take photos in Bangkok you can always stay at Lebua at State Tower because you get your own balcony with exceptional sights. In the interest of providing you the most in-depth coverage (how very kind of me), of course I had to stay at the Lebua at State Tower and review it.

What to watch out for

If you go to any of the rooftop bars you will need to buy at least a drink and the prices vary wildly so make sure you pick a bar you can afford (seriously, some of them are w.i.l.d) so check out the website and read through which one suits you best. In my experience, it doesn’t matter too much where you sit as you and most of the other guests will be hopping around enjoying the views and taking photos, too so you won’t feel awkward doing the same. Because you are a paying guest and its a restaurant/sit-down bar, you will have plenty of time to get the photo you want.

Srinagarindra Train Night Market from above.

Srinagarindra Train Night Market

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

This spot is a bit of a way out from the main sightseeing spots but I still recommend making the journey over because in my opinion it is the best market in Bangkok. Srinagarindra Train Night Market has a really great, relaxed vibe, you’ll be able to find actual stands selling handmade arts and crafts as well as retro collectibles, street food, pop-up bars, and an awesome view. It gets crowded at night like any market, but not to the level of the more touristy markets. Since they have sit down restaurants and bars, I found it a great place to sit and people watch!

What to watch out for

To get the best view of the lights of the market stalls, you’ll need to go up into the carpark which is located right by the entrance. You can also go to any of the rooftop bars to get a good view of the stalls at Srinagarindra Train Night Market.

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan

Why this spot is so amazing for photos

Again, this one is one of the biggies when it comes to Tourism in Bangkok. The reason why is because it is an absolutely stunning temple with an ornate pagoda, the Thonburi Pagoda of Wat Arun. It is nowhere near as busy as The Grand Palace and if you go in the morning it is quite enjoyable and crowd-free.

What to watch out for

This spot is actually pretty easy to get a nice photo as you’ll want to point your camera in an upwards angle to get all of the pagoda in your shot, which means that it is quite easy to get a shot without other people in it (if that is your thing). The only issue I found that really makes me anxious is when you take the boat over you’ll find that it gets quite packed, so take that into consideration if you don’t like crowds!

I found staying in a hotel near the river, taking the morning boat over and taking an uber back was the best way to avoid the crowds for me so I didn’t feel flustered.

VERDICT

Finding uncrowded spots to take photos in Bangkok takes planning

There are plenty of places that you can visit without dealing with the crowds. Almost any temple you find in Bangkok is going to be magical, no matter the size or popularity. But the reality is that Bangkok is a megacity and there is a lot of hustle and bustle. My tips are to make sure you get your sightseeing and photos done early to avoid the crowds (which, let’s face it – is the best lighting anyway).
